Cleaning
Method
Our idea is to place a sponge on all four corners of the fridge. But for the product to work effectively, you have to have the felt side of the sponge touching the floor, and the squishy side of the sponge cushioning touching the fridge. Also, you need to spray the floor with hardwood floor cleaner. This makes the floor smoother and easier to slide on. As the fridge is being slid, the floor is being cleaned.
Why does it work scientifically? The reason it is so hard to move a fridge is because there is a lot of static friction between the fridge and the floor. The more friction an object has, the more force has to be applied to move the fridge and keep it moving. By placing sponges underneath it, it provides a cushion between the two objects that creates less friction. Also, the felt side provides a smoother surface making sliding easier, faster, and safer. The hardwood cleaner acts as a lubricant which makes the friction between the sponge and floor even less. What forces are involved? The main forces involved are normal force, gravitational force, frictional force, and applied force. They are more commonly represented as Fnorm, Fg, Ff, and Fa. These forces all work together to move the fridge. Fnorm opposes the force Fg, and the force Ff opposes the force Fa. The applied force is the force that causes the object to move or start moving. Frictional force shows the static friction that has to be overcome to allow the object to move. Normal force and gravitational force are both there to show that the object is neither in 0 gravity, or falling. |
We have come up with a new method to moving refrigerators. If you have moved one before you know how heavy they are, and you might have noticed the floor being scuffed up or damaged, as well as the bottom of the fridge getting ruined. Our new method uses hardwood floor cleaner and sponges to move those heavy, back breaking refrigerators smoothly across the floor without damaging the fridge or floors. In fact we even clean the floors while we do it! Our method has been proven to work. We have conducted many experiments time and time again. We even have the physics to back it up.
